gentle doesn’t mean weak
Often our patriarchal, capitalistic society focuses on how hard we can push ourselves, how much we can endure before breaking, or how driven and motivated we can be. How many times growing up did I hear the phrase ‘no pain, no gain’? More than I care to remember. Although this mindset can help us achieve things that maybe we didn’t think were possible, there’s a flip side to constantly grinding that is equally important to embrace. Taking time to rest. Making time for hobbies, joy, friends and fun. Taking time to mentally relax, reset, and not burn out. Making time for self-care.
I recently heard the quote ‘gentle doesn’t mean weak’ and it stuck with me. Not only does this hold personal significance for me as a woman experiencing the world, but as a clinical herbalist and holistic esthetician. When I think about plant-based skincare and the herbal products that I handmake at rebel + dart, this quote is so apt. I’m not concerned with using the most potent glycolic peel on your skin that will turn your face red for two days and then peel off making you look like a mummy for another three days. I am concerned with using potent, botanical ingredients that balance your skin barrier, increase hydration, cleanse properly to remove cosmetics, pollutants and impurities. I’m concerned with educating you on how to take care of your skin’s unique needs and making sure your diet and lifestyle is supporting the health of your skin. I’m concerned with balancing your skin’s PH and letting your natural beauty shine through.
Skincare doesn’t have to be intense, abrasive or hard on your skin to be effective. With herbal skincare, you can let the plants work their magic and your complexion will never look better.
