the healing power of baths

Bathing is a self-care practice that is revered across centuries and cultures. Iceland, Mexico, Turkey, South Korea, and India all have long traditions centered around hot springs, bathhouses, steams, and saunas.

In Ayurveda, bathing is recognized as a practice to cleanse the body, and to bring your entire being into balance. Bathing can help maintain harmony between mind, body, spirit, and environment. Communing with nature is an essential part of the ritual, and something rebel + dart believes is essential for your well-being. Whether that’s lighting candles to add a fire element, dropping essential oils into the bath to spark your olfactory senses, or soaking in a plant-steeped bath made from age-old recipes, it promotes spiritual and mental relaxation, stress relief, and dissolves muscle tension.

Once a week, soak in a hot bath for 20 minutes. Pour in some Epsom salts, add an essential oil of your choice (maybe lavender or neroli), and our rebel +dart bath balm (coming soon!). Just like you steep your tea in water, drop the bath balm into the tub about 10 minutes before you hop in. Because your skin is the largest organ in the body, the herbs will absorb and cleanse from the outside in. The winning combo of herbal ingredients will draw out toxins, lower stress, and balance your skin’s PH. If done before bedtime, it can help you unwind, relax and let go of your day. We know how busy your life is, so we ask that you commit to this ritual just once a week, when you have time to really indulge.

Pro Tip: Apply warm body oil to your skin before getting in the bath to help stay hydrated. You can also give yourself a mini massage while applying the oil - also known as abhyanga in Ayurveda.
