unlocking radiant skin - facial steam recipe

For those clients I see regularly at rebel + dart, you reap the benefits of facial steaming at every appointment. Steam helps to rejuvenate dull, tired skin, promotes circulation, opens clogged pores, improves skincare absorption, and as a bonus, eases sinus congestion. To get similar benefits at home, in-between appointments, or just for fun, here’s a great herbal steam recipe.

An herbal facial steam encompasses aromatherapy, facial care and a relaxation experience all in one. It involves enveloping your face in steam for about 5-10 minutes. Make sure you wash your face before steaming, you want a clean slate.

Recipe:

  1. Combine skin-beautifying herbs in a medium-sized bowl. Play around with your own combos! Calendula, lavender, rose, gotu kola, raspberry leaf and chamomile are a few of my favorites. Use just a pinch of each dried herb.

  2. Bring 4-6 cups of water to a boil.

  3. Let the water cool slightly before pouring into the bowl with your herbal blend. You don’t want the water to be too hot as it can burn.

  4. Lean over the bowl and tilt your face over the herbal mixture so that you’re staring into it. Hover your face over the bowl. Don’t put your face in the water, there is no submersion involved. Then drape a tea towel over your head so the steam stays under the towel.

  5. After 5-10 min. remove the towel and pat your face dry. Follow with your regular skincare regimen.
